Thinking about adding a battery to your solar setup? You’re not alone, and with the government’s massive new rebate, there’s never been a better time to make the move.
Whether you're keen to cut your power bills, boost your energy independence, or just make the most of your solar panels, a solar battery can be a smart investment. Here’s what you need to know.
If you’ve already got solar panels, you’re generating plenty of clean, green energy during the day. But unless you’re home to use it all, a lot of that power ends up going back to the grid. That’s where a solar battery comes in.
A battery stores your excess solar energy for later, like when the sun goes down or during a blackout. It means more of your power stays in your hands, not the power company’s.
Here’s the big news: the Federal Government has just announced the Cheaper Home Batteries Program, and it’s a game changer.
Starting from 1 July 2025 (but backdated to include installs from 6 April 2025), the rebate offers a direct discount of $370 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of battery storage. That’s up to $4,000 off an average 11.5kWh battery, and as much as $18,500 off larger systems.
You can even get it installed now and have your battery commissioned after 1 July to claim the rebate. No need to wait.
